2025 has been a year of change, of movement, fragmentation, drama, and even collapse. Connection to the ground and to my creative process has been fragile. It has felt like what I imagine an earthquake to feel like, despite living in a place where apparently solid rock is never far beneath my gardener's spade. When I give up digging and walk through the landscape I see that through the far more patient efforts of nature, rock splits to allow delicate plants to emerge, walls have gaps through which I can see light. The stone walls in this part of Ireland were built as barriers, boundaries, built with courage and often under great hardship. Sometimes this is where the delicate and unlikely tendrils of creativity and new growth emerge, where a shimmer of sea, sky or glimmering field shines through the gaps. Alas I often struggle to have that patience, that trust. When all I can see is the rock it feels impossible, but when I also see the gaps between I see the beautiful dance between solid and space. These works have emerged from moments where creativity shone through doubt, dancing their way through the perceived physical and metaphorical obstacles on my path.
